A Conversation With an Intouch “Boomerang”

My Second First Day

Across the Intouch Group network, company culture is a big deal, and employee health, happiness, and engagement really mean something to us. From our inclusion and diversity initiatives, a plethora of learning and development opportunities, and a flexible workplace policy, to the monthly tech stipend, weekly yoga and meditation classes, meeting-free zones, “Early Fridays,” and so much more, it’s no surprise that Intouch has many, many long-haulers — employees who have been here since day one. But we also have what we call “boomerangs” — employees who leave and then come back. At the time of this writing, there are nearly two dozen Intouch boomerangs working across our offices, so we thought it would be fun to ask them what made them come back after leaving. Check out our Q&A with Michaela Bradshaw, an account director in Kansas City.

What influenced you to leave?
My family. I loved my job, clients, and most importantly my team. But I was working and traveling too much and wasn’t home to be the mom or wife I wanted to be.

When you left, did you continue to work in this industry or try something entirely new?
I did! I worked as a contractor for a few small agency shops and freelanced.

How long were you away?
Five years.

If you were away for a while, how many positions did you have before you boomeranged?
Two, plus contract work.

What are two or three things that drew you back?
The people! The growth of the company reminded me of Intouch’s amazing foundation and commitment to patients/families. And, the opportunities to have a different approach to working, for example, working from home, more flex hours; this allowed me to see myself being successful in both roles of my life – mother and professional.

In your opinion, what differentiates Intouch?
The people! Since 2009, our leadership has said (and shown!) their commitment to the culture of the company. In hiring smart people and setting a clear vision, Intouch has continued to lead the category in helping patients and their families with their healthcare realities. That is something I am proud to say I am a part of. I want my professional work to help make life better or a bite easier for someone else.
